Sometimes the simplest things can make the biggest impact.
While considering ideas and technologies that may enhance student learning in my classroom, I have also had time to think about strategies that should have been used… but haven’t. I think that we all like the idea of setting goals and we may even take the time to list a few while we’re considering the curriculum for upcoming courses. The best of intentions!
As silly as it may seem, I think I have to make my “big idea” goals for each class a bit more public. This may result in homemade posters on my classroom walls, discussions with the students and even calendars with big stickers indicating when a goal should be met. Don’t get me wrong — I’ve met several goals before and my classes have been very successful. I’ve used curriculum expectations to guide student learning… all that jazz. I just think that it can be even better than that.
I think the best way to put it is this: What if I was a student in my class?
